Mothers

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us, when adversity takes the place of prosperity, when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts."
--Washington Irving

Jeff and I are both fortunate to have been blessed with wonderful mothers, who are there for us whenever we need them as moms or grandmothers. We both know how lucky we are, and hopefully they know how much we love and appreciate them.

And both have been amazing as Nan and Grandmom since Day 1.
Literally.

We love you, Mom and Mom #2. And we hope you know every day, and not just on Mother's Day, how special you are to us.

If I'm being honest, my own Mother's Day got off to a bit of a shaky start. I had hoped to be granted the opportunity to sleep in, but the Alex alarm clock went off at its typical time. At 7 a.m., I heard him calling from his room, "Ma! Ma!" I waited to see if Jeff would pop out of bed, and tell me reassuringly, "Don't worry, honey. You go right back to sleep. I'll take care of this." But when I looked over at him sleeping peacefully, I could almost hear the *Poof!* as my daydream disappeared. As I sluggishly pulled my sweats on, I'm pretty certain I saw him open his eyes, look at the clock, and fall right back to sleep.

Happy Mother's Day to me!

Thankfully, things only went uphill from there, and Jeff redeemed himself in a big way. A little over an hour later, he and Jacob drove to Cracker Barrel and picked up a pancake breakfast for me. And some food for them too.
He watched the boys while I ran some errands, did a little shopping, and visited my sister. And later, we had some great family time at the playground.
I received two very sweet cards from Jeff and the boys. Jacob even signed his name in their card. And so did Alex- with a little help from his daddy.

A few days ago, I was talking to a friend about plans for Mother's Day. When I told him I didn't really have any, he said, "Well, you can spend the day soaking in the kids."

I said, "I get to soak in my kids all day, every day."

I know I'm lucky.

And even during the moments the boys are driving me crazy (it happens every now and then),
or the times I look at the clock and count down to bedtime (or Miller Lite hour),
or when asking two boys who are bouncing off the walls to please calm down a little bit, and get this in response from Jacob:

"Boys don't sit down and rest. We are WILD!" (which actually, I found rather hilarious)

I still know how blessed I am. And I can't imagine having it any other way.

I hope my boys always, always know how much their mommy adores them, loves them, loves being with them, loves having sons, loves their smiles, their hugs, their kisses, their personalities, their senses of humor, their voices, how happy they make her, and how sometimes, she finds herself just gazing at them, wondering how in the heck she got so lucky.

I love you so much, Jacob and Alex. Since Day 1 and always.
