He loves me, he loves me not

Last Saturday morning, Jacob & Jeff were snuggling in bed before deciding to start the day. Jeff decided it was a perfect opportunity for a conversation about growing up, with hopes of explaining to Jacob again why he should stay in his own bed past the hour of 1 a.m.

Jeff: "Growing up means that you pee on the potty, don't wear diapers, and sleep in your own bed. When you get older, you go to school every day. And when you get even older than that, you drive a car. And when you get even older, you'll meet a girl and get married. And you'll have your own house."

Jacob: (suddenly became teary-eyed) "But I want to live in this house with you."

Jeff: "But that's part of growing up. You'll meet a girl and want to live in your own house."

Jacob: "But I want to marry Mommy!"

Aww, he loves me.

Fast forward to later in the day...

Me: "Come here, buddy. I want a hug."

I am then bestowed the most halfhearted of hugs.

Me: "What's going on with you? You don't love your mommy today?"

Jacob: "I didn't love you before, but I do now."

Me: "But you're supposed to always love me. I always love you."

Jacob: "But I love you on Saturdays."

Jeff chimes in with, "Well, today is Saturday."

Jacob: (excitedly) "Then I love you!"

After pausing a moment, he adds, "But I don't love you on Wednesdays."

Men and their mixed signals. Geez.

Speaking of growing up, he looks SO grown up with that new haircut! As for Wednesdays? You could always send Jacob down here. Maybe his love on Wednesdays is reserved for me. :)
PS- I am glad to see he's putting to good use learning the days of the week.
