Busy Baby

It wasn't too long ago that Will was a motionless little lump in my arms, content to be pressed up against me, and oblivious to everything else going on around him. And while he's still more than happy to have his mommy hold him (boy, is he ever), he has realized there are many, many exciting things to behold (and begrab) around him.
Anything I'm holding in the hand that's not holding him is exciting. Thrilling. And must be touched. It has become an exercise in strength, flexibility, and endurance to take a sip of a drink while holding Will. It should only be attempted when absolutely necessary by a professional mom.

What a tease I am.

In fact, anything within arm's reach is exciting. And thrilling. And absolutely must be touched. Grabbed. And if possible, immediately brought up to his mouth.

Lying down and playing with his toes continues to be great fun. And the Jumperoo is one of his favorite activities. Plus, it has taught him that when standing in someone's lap, you should test it out and see if their legs bounce you up and down like the Jumperoo (fun for Will and a great arm workout for the Human Jumperoo!). We still relax in the swing from time to time, and the bouncy seat is fine in moderation. But Will decided he'd like to try out another way to sit...by sitting.

We haven't yet perfected this skill, but at just 2 days shy of 5 months old, I think we're off to a great start.
Even so, Mommy got a little nervous while taking pictures and added pillows for support behind him. Just in case he fell over (which he did, grinning the entire time).

And he's come a long way from the very beginning of tummy time, an activity that used to be a chore full of the loudest grunts and groans you've ever heard from a baby. If memory serves me, I believe his Aunt Kerri compared these noises of strain to "a 500 lb woman getting up out of a chair."
For the past few weeks, he rolls over from belly to back, usually on accident, but nevertheless, making his parents & big brothers proud.

And now, Will has decided to take it up a notch. What started out as simple push-ups during tummy time has developed into this.

On all fours, rocking back and forth. It's not quite a crawl, but it does propel him forward (and sometimes, backwards). With all of his movement, I need to consider a much larger blanket for tummy time. I'm moving him back to the center of the blanket every 2 minutes.

I think he's almost as proud as we were. This picture reminds me that soon I'll have a crawler in this house. Jacob and Alex are very ready for their little brother to crawl after them.

Places to go, people to see, and things to grab and put in his mouth. Adults think they're so busy? They just can't remember what it was like to be 5 months old.

First of all, that should totally be a beer in your hand in the first picture since you're wearing a Guiness t-shirt. :)

Secondly, that's great that he's working on his sitting! Camden didn't perfect his sit until 6 months old.

And yes, those grunts are hilarious and VERY expressive. I can't wait until he's crawling around! When he and Camden are both in motion, look out!

Wow. He's so precious. I can't believe how much he has changed in such a short time. He will be crawling soon and getting into all of Jacob's and Alex's things. Not sure how much they will enjoy that.
