Telephone

Today Jacob answered our telephone 3 times. He seemed very excited he was allowed to do this. I think it made him feel like quite the grown up. He did a good job, considering it was his first day as the household secretary. Sure, sometimes he pulled the phone away from his ear to stare at the buttons, and all the while I hear the person on the other line chattering away. At least he was polite and friendly to the callers. But perhaps a lesson on what information should be disclosed to callers is in order...

One of the phone calls was from me. Will and I were at the grocery store and I called Jeff while standing in the ridiculously slow line where the cashier had to call for assistance and then the person paid with a check. I always pick the wrong line at the store. I also always pick the grocery cart with the one loud wheel that sticks and doesn't turn.

Ring, ring...

Jacob: "Hello!"

Me: "Well, hi there. It's Mommy."

Jacob: "Hi, Mommy!"

Me: "Hi, Jacob. You're answering the phone, huh?"

Jacob: "Yep! I have the phone beside me and I'm watchin' TV."

Me: "Well, good. Where's Daddy?"

Jacob: "Oh, he just got out of the shower and doesn't have a shirt on and he's naked."

Full disclosure about full exposure: not necessary information to pass along to callers.
But a great job overall.

I'm told that after I hung up with Jacob and Jeff, Alex was upset that he hadn't spoken to me. Jeff dialed my cell phone, but I missed the call. I'm glad I did, though. Because I had the cutest voice message waiting for me from Alex.

"Hi, Mommy. I yuv you. I can see you in a wittle bit. Bye."

The words alone are sweet. Combine them with his little (or "wittle") voice, and you've got hands down one of the most adorable messages ever left on voice mail.

I've listened to it approximately 15 times and I want to save it forever.

What a sweet message. I love Alex's little voice.

And I really enjoyed talking to Jacob on the phone. I especially like when he pulled the phone away from his ear, whispered something to you, and I heard you say, "It's okay to tell her that." And then he came back on and said, "I just went to the bathroom." Haha. I love how nothing is TMI for kids.
