In the midst of our pretty uneventful week, Jacob did manage to make a few humorous and adorable comments that I thought I'd share:
Even in 90 degree weather, I sometimes get cold. As Jeff was changing after work, I snuck into bed and buried myself under the covers while the boys followed him around as he got dressed. I thought it was the perfect opportunity for a 2 minute rest. Jacob saw me and jumped in bed with me. We both snuggled under the covers.
Me: "I'm so cold!"
Jacob: (sliding over closer and snuggling up to me) "Dat's OK. I keep you warm, Mommy."
As I'm in the process of feeling my heart melt over the sweetness of that comment, he adds in a whisper, "You my best friend."
I've started giving Jacob children's Claritin again. I stopped for a little while, but since his nose is gushing snot now, I'm thinking it's possible he may have inherited his mommy's allergies that seem to last all year. So I opened up the small, chewable pill, and called him over.
"Jacob, it's time to take your medicine."
Jacob: "What medicine, mommy? My red medicine?" (Red medicine is Tylenol. He'd been taking it the week before for a fun virus with fever.)
Me: "No, not the red. Your grape medicine."
Jacob: "Oh, my purple drape medicine. Why, mommy? I sick?"
Me: "No, you aren't sick. This medicine helps all of the snot & boogers in your nose."
Jacob: "Mommy, I no put dat medicine in my nose! I put it in my mouth!"
As we walked out to the parking lot today, Jacob searched for our car, saying, "I wanna find our car!" So I pointed it out, and he ran ahead of me & Alex on the sidewalk. When we reached the car, he said, "I wanna give it a hug & a kiss."
I have no idea where this sudden affection for the car came from.
Me: "How 'bout just a hug? The car is dirty, so we don't need to kiss it."
So Jacob smiles, takes a deep breath, and kisses the headlight (thanks for listening, Jacob.). He then spreads his arms wide and leans against the car, giving it a very nice hug. Then, "You my best friend, car."
You'd think if the car is one of his best friends that it would mean a little less when he says I'm his best friend. But it doesn't. I still love it. :)
When Jacob is wearing his Spiderman costume, he runs around, shoots webs, and names the bad guys he's fighting & saving Mary Jane from. But my favorite thing he says as Spiderman is, "Oh no! My spider sense is tingling!"
After finishing nursing Alex the other day, I neglected to pull my shirt all the way back down over my stomach. So I was sitting on the couch when Jacob noticed a part of my stomach was exposed. He comes over, pokes it, and says:
"Dere's lots of cheeseburgers in dere."
Yep, it's time to get to work on my sit-ups.
Our adventures out of the house this week include:
1) Visiting Nan & Pop Pop. My dad wasn't feeling well on Father's Day, so we weren't able to visit and give him his cards & gift. So that was our primary reason for stopping by this week. Of course Jacob assisted with the gift opening, which was just a mug with a photo collage of the boys on it. Even though he's my dad, I thought he would enjoy a collage of his grandsons more than he would 15 pictures of me all over his mug. Plus, I don't even know if I have that many pictures of myself. He seemed to really like it. Or else he's very polite & quite a good actor.
2) A visit with Nani (Jeff's grandmother) and Tricia (my sister-in-law) & her tagalongs (aka my nephew/Jacob's best bud, Daniel, my niece, Lainey, and a little girl she babysits a few days/week). Being the organized teacher that she is, Tricia brought along a book for Nani to read to the kids. Sure, at one point Nani was reading to just Tricia, but for the majority of the time, the kids all gathered 'round & listened. Of course, for Tricia & me, it was a perfect photo op.
After the reading of "The Rainbow Fish", Tricia even had a craft! It's uncommon for us to have structured activities in our house, so it was fun to watch Jacob choose colors to create his own rainbow fish. The colorful paper fish was immediately hung up on the fridge, which Jacob just could not get over. "Look, mommy, I made dat fish!" When Jeff walked in the door after work, the first thing Jacob did was show him the fish, which actually did turn out quite good. See?
I love how pleased with himself Jacob is when we're proud of him. It's so sweet. Here's a picture of Jacob going to town with the coloring of his rainbow fish. Two at once!
3) Lunch with Aunt Kerri this afternoon. Since she works with Jeff, Jacob was also excited about seeing Daddy, but he wasn't officially on his lunch break. Although he did take the time to race with Jacob and kick a ball back & forth. He also didn't seem to mind when Jacob sat at his desk, typed a few emails, and left him some very important messages on his Post-It notes. Jacob was also thrilled that Kerri provided him with a lollipop, which he expects every time he visits them at work.
4) Grocery shopping, which I despise. I don't know why, but I do. I hate it even more now that I have to carry bags from a parking lot to an apartment in 90 degree weather. I'm already worn out from keeping a baby entertained and a 3 year old in close proximity to the cart during the trip, so the added fun of making multiple trips carrying as many bags as possible while holding a 23 lb baby is quite exhausting. Having a house with a garage spoiled me. Ahh, the good ol' days when I could unload the bags and leave the kids in the car since they were safe in our garage. 3 more weeks until we close on our new house! I'll probably still hate grocery shopping, but at least it'll be easier to unload the bags!
I'm not the only one who's worn out after our busy weekend and long week. Jacob is now quietly playing with cars in my room, and Alex is passed out in my arms. Here they are earlier, relaxing on Jacob's new Spiderman couch.
All 3 of my kids love this couch. I spotted this one napping on it earlier this week.
That's Hailey. And no, I don't put bows in her hair. She'd just gotten a haircut.
So that's been our week. I'm ready for the weekend, which will hopefully involve nothing more taxing than driving to Dunkin' Donuts on Saturday morning. Yes, donuts. Jacob only mentioned that my belly has too many cheeseburgers- he said nothing about donuts.
