Party at 4 at my place

At 4 a.m., I'd guess most people are sleeping, snoring, dreaming, or tossing and turning.

Or, they may be experiencing a temporary break in their sleep to use the bathroom, wet the bed, get a drink, blow their nose, or comfort a child.

Some people are travelling.

Others are working the night shift (I don't know how people do this, but more power to them.).

Some people are waking up to start exercising (I really don't know how people do this.).

And at 4 a.m., some people are making bologna and cheese sandwiches.

What's that? You don't think so? Well, that's exactly what I was doing just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

We had a day trip planned for Wednesday to a park an hour away, and a picnic lunch needed to be packed. After my 9 p.m. shower the night before, I'd been too tired (and lazy) to start making food before bed, so I decided to procrastinate until morning.
Little did I know that "morning" would mean four in the morning. I'd been thinking more along the lines of a less ungodly hour.

The reason I chose 4 a.m.? Because at 3:45 a.m., a fresh diaper and breastfeeding session did nothing to quiet the energy of a certain little one. And instead of doing this at 4:00:

He was doing this.

Grinning, kicking, and letting out loud, happy squeals at 4:15 a.m. while Mommy made bologna and cheese sandwiches. And yes, this picture was taken at 4:14 a.m, though you'd never know since his eyes are about as wide as they could possibly be. But maybe you can tell since the picture is crooked. Clearly the photographer was exhausted.

I know one of the "rules" is to avoid eye contact during middle of the night exchanges with your baby to avoid stimulating them and keeping them awake. But believe me, he was already stimulated. When you're nursing, and your baby is grinning up at you with a boobie in his mouth, it's obvious that you won't be falling back to sleep anytime soon. Clearly it was party time and it's impossible to turn down an invitation to this kind of get together. All I could do was go with the flow.

Will didn't drift back off to sleep until just after 5 a.m. But in that time, I was able to finish packing 3 picnic lunches and have a cute, amusing conversation with a 2 month old.

It was a good party.

Yeah, it's just not worth fighting those wake ups sometimes. It reminds me of the time Mom slept over & Camden woke up at 4 and she turned on all the lights and started playing with him. Haha. Last night, I put Camden to bed at 7:30. He woke up at 9 (which is not unusual for him) but he decided not to go back to sleep until 11:30 (which is VERY unusual). He kept getting up on all fours & rocking. I think he's too busy trying to master crawling to be bothered with sleep.

Very sweet. Wish I had been there. Well, maybe.
